You’ll need a dedicated spot that sits as your changing station, somewhere that is easy to keep changing necessities close by and a comfortable spot for parent and baby, there will be plenty of time spent here at your changing station.

When choosing a safe baby cot for your baby, it is most important to ensure and check that the baby cot you are considering has been tested and approved with the Australian Safety Standards.

The current standard that your baby cot needs to be tested with is AS/NZS 2172:2013.

Key things to look for when purchasing nursery furniture are the compliance with the relevant Australian Safety Standard, which will assess materials, finishes and product functionality. If the furniture you are looking at does not comply with these standards, it is not recommended for purchase.

This is dependent on your space. When your baby is within its first 6 months, they need to be sleeping close to the parents, ideally in a bassinet or co-sleeper. Once they’ve reached their milestone to move from the bassinet to the cot, you can then begin to shift them from bassinet to baby cot, even moving them into their own nursery that will be their space.

In the nursery space, you’ll need enough space for a standard sized cot (a standard sized cot has a mattress size of 1300 x 690mm) some form of storage that would be a wardrobe or chest of nursery drawers, as well as a changing space, you could alternatively find storage that fits a changing mat on top, meaning one less item in your nursery space.

It depends on the item, but yes there are weight limits for particular nursery furniture items.

Bassinets, like the Tasman Eco collection, have a weight limit of 9kgs, we recommend that a baby sleep in their bassinet up until 4-6 months, pending how your baby is growing and moving.

For a baby cot, if using the bassinet height, this will be used from birth up until 4-6 months. Then, once shifting to the cot height your baby could be in their cot up until they are around 3 years old, pending their growth milestones and the move to a toddler bed or single bed. The weight limit on Tasman Eco cots is up to 50kgs.

The weight limit on Tasman Eco compact cots is around 30kgs.

To ensure your furniture is free of any harmful chemicals, it’s important to check that it has passed and been tested with the Australian Safety Standards.

These safety standards are very important in addressing the key safety measures and concerns for your little one, which ensures the materials and finishes used are completely safe.

In terms of storage, there are a number of ways you’re able to increase the amount of storage options in your house. A chest of drawers is a great start, and a wonderful way to keep things matching, perhaps matching your cot and other furniture pieces. There are a few nursery drawer options in the Tasman Eco collection that feature a changing space on top, which is a great option if looking to conserve space in your nursery.

A changing station, like a change table or a changing space can also allow for additional storage, perhaps with the addition of extra shelves to keep all of your changing goods closeby.

There are also great options like wall shelves and toy boxes that can be used for any smaller decorative items or toys.

Absolutely, nursery furniture is made to grow with your little one, especially their baby cot. Tasman Eco baby cots are all convertible, each with 3 different conversions. They all feature a bassinet, cot and then toddler bed conversion, meaning that your baby cot will be with you from newborn until 3 years old.

Tasman Eco compact cots also are made to grow with your little one, with 2 different conversions, bassinet and cot, meaning they’ll be with your little one until around 2 years old, until they are ready to transition from their cot and move to a toddler bed.

Other items like nursery drawers can always be used as a storage option as your little one grows and the items they need and clothes they wear grow also.

There are some key things to consider when positioning nursery furniture in your nursery space. We’ve listed these below;

• The cot shouldn’t be positioned close to any loose or easy-to-grab items, like blinds or curtain cords. This is to ensure their little hands don’t get caught or stuck, and that any items that don’t belong in the cot, make their way to the cot.
• Don’t position the cot too close to loose blinds and curtain cords that small fingers could reach, grip onto and pull down or get caught up in.
• It is important to regularly check how tight the cot bolts are, as part of a regular maintenance check.
• If the cot has wheels at the base of the cot, ensure they have breaks to prevent any movement of the cot when wanting to keep it in position.
• Cot bumpers and soft furnishings in Australia are not recommended in your baby’s cot. Cot bumpers and soft furnishings may cause the baby to overheat, may cover the baby’s face and obstruct breathing.

Nursery furniture is quite easy to maintain and look after and it is recommended to be cleaned occasionally with a wet cloth. If possible, it is also recommended to keep your furniture out of any direct sunlight as sometimes, the timber colour can often fade.
